Slowly poker has become one of the well known and most watched game in the world. Well the credit goes to many from online poker sites who promote it extensively to the poker tournaments. The poker tournaments have become instant hit everywhere with the sort money and players involved.

They are organized in a very big way with lots of promotion and they are aired live on many sports channels like ESPN,STAR sports etc. Thousands of players participate and try their luck in many games that are their in the tournament. Players are to pay a fixed sum of money to get an entry into the game and they also get some play money to start playing.

The money that a player gets at the beginning is called buy-in money. They can start playing with this money and win from it. Most of the tournaments don’t allow players to exchange real money with buy-in money. But some allow it which gives an option to the players to buy more chips when they are in need of it.

The players start betting with the buy-in money. When a player loses all his money he is eliminated from the tournament.There are actually many different varieties of games. There is multi table and single table games. Like in a multi table a player can play at multiple tables at a time and in single table he is just bound to a single table. Then there are invitational and open tournaments.

Now lets see some of the most well known poker tournaments. The two tournaments which are very highly publicized are WSOP or world series of poker tournament and world poker tour and are played in Las vegas and Europe. WSOP started in early seventies and went on to become the games most watched tournament. With prize money running into millions and winners becoming super stars it is very obvious that it becomes popular.

Some other poker tournaments are Poker million which is also highly promoted,Reno Hilton’s World poker and Caribbean poker adventure. Many sponsors also put a lot of money at stake for advertisement and in prize money. So these tournaments are worth watching atleast once.
